| AFROPUFF SERIES |
| #1. POWER TO THE PUFFS |
 |
In this first book of the Afropuffs series, Power to the Puffs, Makeba and Zora meet and become friends. They tackle their first Culture Club project with the help of two friends-Li, a quiet but thoughtful Chinese boy, and Julie, who is a reluctant member of the more popular group in school. Makeba and Zora learn to be confident in their own identity as girls of color. They learn to embrace their natural afropuff hairstyles, even though their more "sophisticated" classmates ridicule them. As their introduction to research on different cultures, the girls decide to study what they think is a rather strange Kenyan family who live next door to Makeba. The girls soon discover that learning about other people teaches them something of themselves. |
